Antisocial Behaviour

One of the impacts of leaving Langdon Hills Country Park "unmanaged" will be to open it up to antisocial behaviour and undesirable visitors.

The Essex Chronicle named the Country Park in its article "Revealed: The Essex dogging hotspots made public online". If there is already a problem with this kind of activity, surely it can only worsen without a uniform presence at the Country Park?

"Harlow and Thurrock illegal traveller sites worry MPs", BBC News

Meanwhile, "illegal traveller sites are not being dealt with effectively by police and councils, according to two MPs." stated an article on BBC News last November. Another risk to the Country Park if the site is left unmanaged.

"Mile-long fly-tipping site could cost taxpayers £1 million to clean up", Telegraph.

"Mile-long fly-tipping site could cost taxpayers £1 million to clean up... It takes 20 minutes to walk the full length of the fly-tipping site blamed on 'illegal travellers' that appeared 'overnight' in Thurrock, Essex" states a Telegraph article. The Council themselves state in their proposal document that risks/impacts include "public health risks and accident claims against the Council", and parks becoming "targets for vandalism and potentially fly tipping" (see document "Shaping the Council 2015-16 and beyond: Savings Business Case" here). Council's plans to save money could cost the taxpayer much much more in the long run.
